This session will be full experience of body, mind and spirit when it comes to First Nation cultural arts. We will be having important conversations that I feel will be valuable in possibly eliminating cultural appropriation as well as tokenizing First Nation arts. This experience will help you understand the significance of cultural art, the relationship to the land and the significant influence arts can have on identity. I strongly believe that there is a respectful sequence to deliver such representing information. I do focus on land base materials but will be providing more modern art techniques as well. You will also be able to see demonstrations of unique techniques and try a few of them. I have created classroom versions of multiple art forms for experience which you will be able to try as well. We will be having guided discussions of cultural appropriation and proper representation of First Nation arts in the classroom as we do our art samples. Each participant will be taking home lists of supplies for a few of the art techniques that we will be experiencing. I will most likely be providing options for, beading, birchbark biting and baskets, quillwork, fish scale art and leather works. If experiencing First Nations art for the first time, these are activities for all ages and skill levels.

PRE-REGISTRATION BEFORE FEB 11th IS A MUST FOR THIS SESSION DUE TO THE PRESENTER MAILING THE SUPPLIES TO YOU. Make sure to send an email including your name, home address and convention you are attending (CATCA) AND pay $35 by email transfer (password: CATCA2021) to hryuzicapi@gmail.com
