This will be a pre-recorded session of both Patrick and Marrisa in the exhibition setting doing a talk on their curated exhibit Powwow! Ochîwin the Origins. A powwow is an Indigenous celebration of life. The exhibit at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery, showcases the regalia of the seven dance styles of powwow. The regalia were created by 11 Indigenous artists, and the video will showcase each regalia up close to view the time, craftsmanship and talent involved in each piece. Patrick and Marrisa will speak on the origin stories of the powwow and the origin stories of the seven traditional dance styles. There has been a resurgence of powwows since 1951 when the government lifted the ban on powwow ceremonies in the Indian Act. Patrick and Marrisa will share their own personal stories on how the powwow has been a source of healing in their own lives.
