In Japanese language class, teachers introduce some Japanese culture and try to let students to experience them, such as Origami (folding paper), calligraphy, Yukata (traditional clothes) and so on. It is true that these cultural experiences will promote students’ motivation but these are only some aspect of Japanese culture and customs. Moreover, teachers need to prepare materials for cultural experience. Then, how can we develop intercultural competence, especially at the stage of the beginner level? In this session I will show you how to plan from the short lesson or activity to the longer project, starting with one photo.
