Number sense can be thought of as flexible thinking about numbers. Students need to be able to use that number sense to understand how multiplication and division work in order to develop fluency with basic facts. Fluency is shown through the ability to think efficiently, accurately and flexibly, and to have a variety of strategies to choose from. This is done through active thinking and not through memorization. This session will provide you with a variety of ideas to implement in your classroom.
