Career planning is an evolving phenomenon with the modern day career plan being non linear. Youth are preparing today for jobs in the future that may or may not even exist yet! We will debunk a common myth that "post-secondary" is equivalent to only university degrees! Trades apprenticeship, certificates, diplomas, degrees and non-credit course work can all increase one's earning potential throughout a lifetime. Jill Halter (Career Advisor at Notre Dame High School) and Cindy Visser (Career Advisor at Lindsay Thurber High School) will jointly context key elements of "post-secondary planning" and provide strategies to help support students in these efforts. The session will include: important considerations in both middle school and high school, a personal values assessment, and a request for feedback for possible future sessions. Whether you are a parent or guardian, an aunt or an uncle, a teacher or a counsellor, this session will give you tools to help youth start the life-long endeavour of non linear career planning, with a focus on "post-secondary" training.
