THIS SESSION WILL NOT BE RECORDED.
In multicultural Canada today people of diverse backgrounds must live and work together. Sometimes in spite of differences, people get along and sometimes they don’t. Often the main reason that people do not get along is the “isms” between them. Racism is perhaps the most obvious and problematic “ism” and can be subtle and difficult to recognize. This workshop is geared to participants who have little or no knowledge of racism, how it operates, the difference between racism and racial discrimination, and how the biases and assumptions they may have internalized could affect their interactions. It is also geared towards those who want to implement systemic change in their work groups and organizations. Many organizational policies state a zero tolerance for racism yet it continues to exist systemically. Self awareness is key to understanding anti-racism personally, and is the foundation for effecting systemic change in organizations. Self awareness is also essential to fostering an inclusive classroom.
