Global Citizenship in the Time of Global Crises
NOTE: This session requires active and live participation. A virtual whiteboard will be used.  This is best used from a laptop with a keyboard and mouse.

The Covid-19 crises experienced over the year has called into question how we engage and interact with each other in our communities. But has the crises caused us to retreat from our global obligations, or has it renewed a sense of global citizenship and responsibility?
In this facilitated discussion led by staff of the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation, teachers will discuss the 'teachable moment' we have in front of us global citizenship educators, and discuss strategies to motivate and guide students toward more, not less, action as global citizens. Case studies of Alberta organizations, who responded to the crises, will be provided as exemplars that can be used with students to model the positive way Albertans responded in this global crises.

Why is this session relevant
There is a Signiant need for teachers to spend time debriefing the Covid-19 crises, and discussing the 'what next', for our communities, our students, and our schools. Citizenship is a competency in the Alberta Curriculum, and this crises particularly highlights the need for teachers to be guiding students towards more, not less, global understanding and engagement. This will be a open space for teachers wrestling with this topic, professionally, and personally, to come together in open dialogue and exchange.
